About 5,000 people were expecting the singer, who was scheduled to perform last night, but he did not arrive. Lovers of Wizkid refused to quit the arena, as they had great hopes that the Gammy-award-wining musician and performer would show up.
Many people are calling the concert, which was supposed to take place on Saturday, December 10, 2022, a complete waste of time and money because tickets ranged in price from GHC 300 to GHC 3,200 simply to see him play.
The audience was irate and angry as they waited impatiently for Wizkid to take the stage since 4 p.m. the day before. They either demanded a refund or insisted on seeing the “Starboy” perform before leaving.
A number of performances by artists like Gyakie, Efya, Darkovibes, and others were seen, but not the man of the hour.
There were reportedly great hopes and an upbeat atmosphere when Wizkid’s official Disc Jockey, “DJ Tunez,” took the stage with some live band music. This was because many people believed the “Essence” hitmaker would follow.
However, as the live band mixes took longer than anticipated, the crowd’s excitement started to wane, and still, the organizers did not provide adequate communication to update them on WizKid’s progress.
According to reports, the crowd didn’t receive the memo until 3:47am, when Wizkid’s official DJ yelled twice “the promoter fucked up” over Black Sherif’s “Kwaku the Traveller.”
Since then, disgruntled fans have flocked to social media to express their rage at how he treated them.
“People leaving at 4:30 am after waiting for Wizkid for 12 hours,” wrote one Nneka. I am so sorry and saddened that this is happening in Ghana, where you currently dwell.
This is the height of one’s arrogance. An artist had over 5000 people waiting for him, but he chose not to come. It is pretty offensive, and the authorities should step in to prohibit and discipline him.
“WIzkid or Big WIz or whatever he calls himself just degraded the entire nation of Ghana,” wrote one Danny. The reason Burna Boy is where he is and the rest of you are in his shadow is now clear to us.
While some have advocated for the banning of Wizkid, the concert’s organizers received praise for one of the most shambolic Wizkid performances ever.
