Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, an MP for the Greater Accra Region’s Ablekuma West District, has been criticized by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for allegedly “getting on his nerves too much.”
In his protest of March 26, 2023, Mr. Bagbin requested that the MP, who is Minister of Communications, swap seats due to her behavior.
The Minister, who was seen making innocent-looking gestures, was heard repeating, “This is my seat,” emphasizing that she was not going to move.
The “clash” began when Bagbin made remarks about a decision to postpone voting on two Supreme Court candidates by the president after the House confirmed six ministerial nominees by a majority vote, which the Minority had sworn to reject collectively.
Ursula posed a query that appeared to annoy Bagbin when he said that some members of Parliament had approached him about postponing the vote on the justices so that they could discuss the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Honorable Minister of Communication, you might have to switch seats since you’ve been grating on my nerves too much, he continued. It’s enough already! Please.”
Ursula continued to respond to gestures from the Minority side while still seated as some Majority MPs intervened to calm her down.
