Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the member of parliament for Pru East, stated that the ECG should ensure that all institutions that are due money, including the Supreme Court and Jubilee House, make payments.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, he declared on TV3, “They should do more, including the Jubilee House, the supreme court building, and Parliament.”

According to Dr. Kwabena Donkor, a portion of the debt owed by institutions can be attributed to the ECG itself.

Additionally, he charged that the power distribution firm had previously bowed to pressure from governmental agencies to take action to pay back its debt.

Dr. Donkor stated the causes of the ECG’s debt: “It is an attitude problem. There used to be an agency settlement system, but that is no longer true. Many government institutions believe that there is one central government and that debt settlement is possible.

“ECG is partially at fault because it earlier gave in to various pressures from governmental entities. When I was the Minister of Power, we put the Ministries of Energy and Finance on prepayment; the trouble is that once you do that, they can’t accrue debt until there is a problem.

Also, the ECG has been disconnecting businesses and households due to debt.
